Nothing But Nets and Orkin Fight The Bite of Deadly Mosquitoes

The United Nations Foundation’s Nothing But Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to raise awareness and donations to stop the spread of malaria – a leading cause of death among children in Africa.

Orkin's Fight The Bite campaing helps protect poeple in Africa frommosquitoes with the donations of insecticide-treated bed nets. Here, an Orkin employee distributes nets with a team in Africa.

Controlling pests and helping to protect public health are at the core of Orkin’s business; so in 2008, Orkin launched Fight The Bite to raise funds through employee, customer and general consumer donations for Nothing But Nets.

For each customer who has Orkin’s mosquito control service, Orkin donates $10 – the cost to purchase and send one life-saving insecticide treated bed net to Africa – to Nothing But Nets.

One hundred percent of each $10 donation to Nothing But Nets goes toward purchasing an insecticide-treated net – providing protection from mosquitoes for up to three years – distributing the net and teaching each recipient how to use the net.

To distribute the nets in Africa, Nothing But Nets works with the Measles Initiative, which is a partnership of the American Red Cross, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), United Nations Foundation, UNICEF (the United Nations Children's Fund) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Since 2008, Orkin has donated more than $575,000 to purchase more than 57,500 nets. For 2011, Orkin has set a goal to raise and donate an additional $200,000 to Nothing But Nets.
